🧬 About the TopicNeurocutaneous Melanocytosis (NCM) is a rare but serious neurocutaneous disorder most familiar to child neurologists who manage patients with large or multiple congenital melanocytic nevi (LCMN). It is characterized by abnormal proliferation of melanocytes within the central nervous system and can be associated with life-threatening complications including melanoma. This session will explore the molecular pathology, screening, and treatment challenges of NCM, especially in the context of NRAS mutations (e.g., NRAS Q61K, Q61R) frequently found in both cutaneous and CNS melanocytes of affected individuals. While treatment advances for BRAF-driven melanomas are substantial, NRAS-driven pathways remain therapeutically limited—posing diagnostic and clinical dilemmas.
🎯 Learning ObjectivesBy the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:
✅ Identify which patients with large congenital melanocytic nevi (LCMN) are at risk for developing NCM
✅ Outline evidence-based screening recommendations for high-risk patients
✅ Review the molecular drivers of NCM-associated melanoma ✅ Discuss potential therapeutic strategies for NCM and CNS melanoma
